A Message from Superintendent Maria Vazquez

OCPS is honored to have had the continuous support of partners from the faith community since we were founded in 1869.

I am extremely proud of all the work we have accomplished with our 150 faith-based partners. You are a tremendous asset as we strive to best serve our nearly 209,000 students at 210 schools.

Our OCPS Adopt-A-School initiative has helped us connect our students with exceptional members of the community who dedicate themselves to inspiring and helping our students through mentoring and other programs.

I would also like to thank our faith-based partners for all their support with holiday gift-giving opportunities, back-to-school collection drives, after-school tutoring and donating to food and supply pantries.

You help us succeed in our vision to ensure every student has a promising and successful future.

I am forever grateful for everything you do for our schools, students and community.

Sincerely,

Maria F. Vazquez, Ed.D

Orange County Public Schools

Faith-based “Adopt-A-School” Initiative

For decades, faith-based organizations have been partnering with schools throughout Orange County. This year, Orange County Public Schools is expanding its outreach to faith- and community-based organizations to partner with public education.

In order to be the top producers of successful students in the nation; we have to be focused, determined and committed to providing our youth with as many resources as possible. Through the Partners in Education program, adopting-a-school is a great vehicle for connecting with a school in your local community. Join us in promoting four basic messages to maximize student success by creating healthy conditions at school and in the home – good character, stay-in-school, and anti-bullying. Relationships can be developed with students through a combination of activities such as:
  • School-based Mentoring cultivates trusting relationships between adult role models and students, developing positive social skills in students and a sense of belonging among their peers, families, and communities.
  • Program support addresses students needs such as: food pantry, school supply drives, student volunteer projects, and holiday "wish" lists.
  • After School & Summer Programs provide enrichment activities for students, such as basketball leagues, robotic clinics, computer labs, and other creative ideas!
