Great Beginnings

Great Beginnings 23-24Great Beginnings is the welcome to and introduction of Orange County Public Schools’ way of work to beginning teachers and the kickoff to induction. Research shows that “new teachers who participate in a comprehensive induction program stay in the profession longer and have greater success in terms of job satisfaction and student achievement” (Harris, 2015). The focus for our beginning teacher professional development aligns with the Florida Educator Accomplished Practices.

Great Beginnings will be held virtually. You must have access to a laptop or desktop with an operable web camera and microphone to participate. Contact your school for device issuance and make sure to log in with your OCPS credentials before leaving campus. The TSR can help you.

Who can attend Great Beginnings?

Great Beginnings is intended for any teacher with fewer than four years of experience who has not completed induction with OCPS. This could include:

  • Beginning teachers newly hired for the 2023-2024 school year.
  • Teachers hired during the 2022-2023 school year who did not complete Great Beginnings and rehired to a school for the 2023-2024 school year.
  • Teachers on a temporary contract in 2022-2023 and rehired to a school for the 2023-2024 school year.

Teachers with 4 or more years of teaching experience in a public school setting are welcome to attend Great Beginnings, but are not required to do so.

Newly hired teachers must attend and be cleared through OCPS Pre-Orientation (PREO) before attending Great Beginnings. Check clearance status with the school secretary.

Where is Great Beginnings offered?

When is Great Beginnings?

Great Beginnings 2023-24 will be offered quarterly throughout the school year. Participants will attend FOUR mini sessions from 5:30-8:30pm or TWO Saturday sessions from 8:30am-3:30pm.
